01When this applies
This addendum applies to you while you are a member of a partnership: an arrangement under which an institution funds access to Explore Science for its researchers. You become a member by accepting this addendum on a verified institutional email address, and you remain one until your membership ends under clause 06.
It does not apply to access provided under a separate written agreement between Explore Science and your institution. Where such an agreement covers your access, that agreement governs it, and this addendum does not.
02What your institution is told
We do not disclose your personal information to your institution. That prohibition does not apply to the following, and applies to everything else:
Disclosed
- Your name and institutional email address
- How much you use Explore Science: which tools, how often, and over what period
Never disclosed
- Anything you write, or upload, and every analysis, score, review or report we produce from it
- Your projects, their names and their contents
The right column is a commitment, not a description of how the product works today. Your institution does not see those things, and asking us does not change that. We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and this addendum does not change that either.
What we disclose appears in the partner report, and in a file that can be exported from it. Only people your institution names to us can read it. Your institution names them one at a time, and we keep a record of each person named and who named them.
03Why
We disclose this so that your institution can administer and assess the access it provides.
We disclose it for that purpose and no other, and we disclose no more of it than that purpose needs.
04What your institution does with it
Once your institution has the report, it holds that information in its own right and under its own policies. What it may do with it is between you and your institution. This addendum sets out our obligations to you. It gives your institution no rights against us, and it does not bind your institution.
Where your institution is established outside Australia, so are the people who read the report, and this disclosure goes to that country.
05What it costs you
Nothing. Your institution has paid for a balance of work in advance, and what you run draws on that balance instead of on anything of yours. Any subscription, credits or gift on your account stay yours, and we do not spend them while your institution funds your access.

06How long it lasts, and how to leave
This addendum applies while you are a member, and your acceptance is relied on for that time only. Your membership ends when you leave, when your institution removes you, or when the partnership itself ends.
To leave, write to [email protected]. Your account returns to ordinary personal terms with your projects intact, and any subscription or credits become spendable again. From then we disclose nothing further about you. What was disclosed before remains with your institution.
07New versions
We can publish a new version of this addendum, and a new version binds you only if you accept it. Until you do, your institution does not provide your access, your account stays on ordinary personal terms, and we disclose nothing beyond what the version you accepted already permits.
08If you do not accept
You lose nothing. Your account continues under the Terms of Service, we tell your institution nothing about you, and the offer stays open.
09Relationship to the Terms of Service
This addendum supplements the Terms of Service. On the disclosure of your usage to your institution, and on that subject only, it prevails over the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy. Every other provision of those documents stays in force.
The Privacy Policy says how to see the personal information we hold about you, how to correct it, and how to complain about the way we handle it.
